Okay, maybe...blinding is a better word. It's not really that bad. Just a little off, if you know what I mean. Bright,... Read More

This is totally amazing. For a mere $14.79, Congee Village will deliver: 3 lunch specials (beef with satay sauce, pan fried minced pork with salty fish and egg fu yong all over rice) 3 hot soups and 1 ginger ale. You can't even get 1 lobster roll from Ed's for $14.79. Congee Village, 207 Bowery btwn... Read More

I'd only ever had crab steamed over noodles one other time, and it had been a bit of a disappointment. Ever since, I had wondered if perhaps the flavor of this particular dish was just always that delicate (read: bland); if so, I couldn't understand what people were raving about. And then, last month, I tasted the dish again at Congee Village. Now, I'm not much of a fan of Congee Village. Aside... Read More

Braving the torrential downpour this afternoon to meet up with the Iridesco boys for an obnoxiously long lunch at Congee Village. Over congee and snow pea leaves we covered Prague (the tourist trap), timesheets, the trouble with translating literature and the unfathomable-to-us popularity of Diet Co... Read More

LOWER EAST SIDE—Was enormous, festive Chinese restaurant Congee Village aflame last night? A reader writes, "I woke up at 3:30 AM last night to the sound of sawing and knocking on Orchard Street. When I looked out the window, I noticed a fire truck picking away pieces of the rear of the Allen... Read More

With so many haute Asian restaurants opening over the past few years, it's easy to overlook the tried and true cornerstones that have been going strong for decades. If you've fallen prey to all the noodle bar hype, take a few steps back, or rather, downtown, to Congee Village, for some fresh, tasty ... Read More
